Adoption

Adoption may be the best parental decision you can make for your child. If you are considering this choice, keep in mind that you have a range of options.

Is adoption right for me?

No choice in around an unplanned pregnancy is easy to make, but adoption might be the most loving, though difficult, choice you can make. Adoption isn’t giving your child away. Adoption is choosing to let another loving family raise your child because you love your child.

Adoption is a beautiful choice.

Types of Adoption

There are three main types of adoption. Open, Semi-Open, and Closed.

Open Adoption

Open adoptions are those in which there is communication between the birth mother (and sometimes father) based on an agreed-upon plan. Together with the adoptive family, you can choose how involved you wish to be in the child’s life, which can come in the form of letters, photos, periodic visits, etc.

Semi-Open Adoption

Semi-open adoptions are those in which the communication between the birth mother and the adoptive family take place through a third-party adoption professional. Usually, only first names of the adoptive and birth families are shared. There is some room for negotiation in this option but the specific terms of the relationship are well defined.

Closed Adoption

In closed adoptions, information is kept confidential and there is no contact between the birth mother and the adoptive family after the adoption takes place. The birth mother still chooses the adoptive family, but there is no interaction with them before or after the child is born.
