We know you’re anxious.
Considering abortion?
If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, abortion may seem like your only option. But don’t make that decision until you can talk with us about what to expect from abortion procedures and possible risks. We want to empower you to make an informed decision. We’ll provide factual answers to your questions so there is no doubt about your next step. An abortion is a medical method of terminating a pregnancy. How far along you are in your pregnancy determines what kind of abortion you may have.

Types of Abortions
Chemical Abortions
You may think a chemical abortion is the easiest solution to end your pregnancy before 10 weeks gestation. Abortion pills contain two drugs, Mifepristone (RU-486) and Mifeprostol. Mifepristone (RU-486) blocks the action of progesterone, a hormone that enables the mother’s body to sustain and nourish the pregnancy. Mifepristone causes the lining of your uterus to thin so the developing embryo cannot stay implanted. The second drug, Mifeprostol, causes your uterus to expel the embryo.
Surgical Abortions
If you’re further than nine or ten weeks along in your pregnancy, the abortion pill won’t be an option for you. You will need to have a surgical abortion procedure. There are a number of different types, but all involve injections, dilation and a suction device. This type of abortion is more invasive and can cause extreme side effects.
Risks of Abortions
Regardless of the type of abortion, it is a serious medical procedure that comes with risks, side effects, and long-term impacts.
Common physical side effects include:
Excessive Bleeding
Cramping
Nausea and vomiting
Possible damage to your cervix
Potential for a perforated uterus
An incomplete abortion could make you unable to have any children in the future or even death. It is also important to realize that many women experience severe emotional and psychological side effects after an abortion. Some women have an overwhelming sense of guilt and regret.
